Book Covers Don't Matter!

Book Covers Don't Matter...

This might be a controversial subject, and I know some authors are going to disagree, but it is a truth universally acknowledged, that a book cover sells books. (Yes, there are a few authors with terrible book covers, who are successful. But those few already have a huge fan-base and loyal readers. They are the exception and not the rule.)

A cover is usually what first attracts the reader and lures them in. A book cover is the first impression that most readers have. It is like bait on a hook that captures the reader's attention and gets them curious enough to want to find out more.

A good cover is part of a writer's marketing arsenal and it had better do a damn good job!

However, if you're struggling with sales, then take a long, hard look at your book covers, then your blurb (book description), and keywords. These 3 things are vital to success.

A lot of successful authors and graphic designers will agree that if your book cover does not match the current trends, and doesn't look "genre specific," then you won't sell as many books. My advice is to study the market and bestsellers in your genre on places like Amazon and Goodreads.

Once you start thinking about a cover in terms of “packaging,” it will make all the difference.

Have you ever considered rebranding your book covers? I recommend new designs every 3 years or so, as trends change and evolve. ๐ŸŽจ✨

It can be a game-changer, and here's why:

๐Ÿ“Œ Just like fashion, book cover trends evolve over time. By adapting your book covers to current style trends, you can create a cohesive look that resonates with contemporary readers. This can help your books fit seamlessly into the bookshelves and online platforms where readers are browsing for their next great read.

๐Ÿ“Œ Updating your book covers allows you to align with the latest trends in book cover design. This ensures your books remain visually appealing and relevant to today's readers, increasing their chances of catching the eye of a new generation of readers in a competitive market.

๐Ÿ“Œ Revive Interest with a new cover. Even your loyal fans will appreciate a fresh take on your backlist. It's an excellent way to rekindle interest in your books and inspire new readers to buy your stories.

๐Ÿ“Œ Or perhaps you designed covers based on what you liked at the time and not on what was trending in that genre. And that's okay. Perhaps now it's time to rebrand your product (book) to match style trends in that genre.

So, if you're thinking about updating your covers or rebranding, consider giving your book covers a makeover.

Have you ever rebranded book covers, or are you considering it? I'd love to hear your experiences and ideas. Did your sales improve? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

#BookCoverRebrand

When I used the “golden trifecta,” as bestselling author, H. M. Ward, calls it on my own fiction books, my sales tripled within six weeks. Having a great design can make a difference from selling five books a day to fifty.

Don’t underestimate the power of a book cover!

Watch this video by HM Ward on how to use the golden trifecta to become a bestselling author.

BTW, I also recently published a new book in the Fiction Writing Tools series that focuses on book cover art and promotion, which should help indie authors better understand the importance of "genre specific" covers and the right marketing to attract their target readership.

And it will be helpful to anyone with low sales, or if they want to revive their backlist. I put a link below if anyone wants to check it out.
